Bauchi: TETFund completes, commissions N873.67m projects at ATBU, ATAP

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has completed and commissioned six projects worth N873,666,895.02 at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) and Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAP), all in Bauchi.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremonies held at the Gubi Campus of ATBU and the Wunti Dada Campus of ATAP on Saturday, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc Sonny S.T. Echono, said that the Federal Government is committed to providing a conducive learning environment that would enable students and future leaders to excel among their contemporaries around the world.

This, according to him, is a demonstration of the commitment of the government to ensuring that the institutions attain a high global ranking and become more competitive in their mandate.

The Executive Secretary, who was represented by Dr. Salihu G. Bakari, the Director, Research and Development/Centres of Excellence, TETFund, said that TETFund is an interventionist agency established by an Act of Parliament for the provision of requisite infrastructure to aid teaching, learning, research, and skills
Development in the nation’s public tertiary institutions has ensured judicious utilisation of the Federal Government’s investments in public tertiary institutions.

He added that the fund has also ensured equity in the allocation of funds to the three tiers of its beneficiaries in line with the enabling laws governing the activities of the agency.

According to him, “Today, six projects will be commissioned at both institutions. 3 at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, and another 3 at Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic. We are greatly honoured to have our project commissioned by the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Vini Maitama Tuggar, to commission these projects.”

He then disclosed that the total cost of the 3 projects to be commissioned at ATBU amounted to the sum of N472,112,546.83, all executed under different intervention headings.

He added that the total cost of the three projects commissioned at ATAP amounted to a sum of N401,554,348.19, all executed under different intervention headings.

“We are delighted to use the occasion of this commissioning of projects to showcase the achievements of this government in the tertiary education sub-sector, considering the amount of funds released for the provision of needed infrastructure through the Fund,” he explained.

The TETFund ES stressed that, regardless of the economic challenges in the nation, the Fund is not deterred. We remain focused on the delivery of our mandate and supporting excellence and innovation at our institutions of learning.”

“We commend the institution’s management for ensuring quality delivery of these iconic projects and for complying with the terms of delivery approved by the Fund,” he emphasised.

Sonny Ochono said, “As we commission these projects, let me implore the management of the institutions to ensure proper usage and maintenance of the buildings, to serve generations coming behind to acquire learning in the institutions.”

He stressed that, “As an agency of government, let me assure you that the Fund will continue to support our beneficiaries within the provisions defined by the Board of Trustees as enshrined in our enabling laws.”

“Honourable Minister, Sir, our gathering here today is evidence of efficient management, prudence, and success in the implementation of projects funded from public funds allocated by the Federal Government through TETFund for the provision of requisite infrastructure to aid teaching, learning, and research, in line with the Fund’s mandate, the TETFund ES stressed.

He also said, On behalf of the Honourable Minister of Education, Board, and Management of TETFund, I say congratulations to the Vice Chancellor and Rector as well as members of the Institutions Management teams for achieving this feat.”

He added, “I also salute the Visitor, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Sen. Bala Mohammed, the Governing Board of the Polytechnic, members of staff, and the various project teams for the support given in making these projects a huge success.”

Sonny Ochono concluded, “I am equally delighted to welcome the Honourable Minister to his home state, as a representative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, at this commissioning.”

The projects were commissioned by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, at ATBU, Gubi Campus, and ATAP, Wuntin Dada Campus.
