A set of new officials that will run the affairs of the Bauchi State Chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), for the next three years has been elected with a call on Sports Writers to be professionals in their reportage considering that sports reporting is a specialized field of journalism.
Speaking while inaugurating the new officials, the North-East Vice President of SWAN, Jibo Zakari, congratulated the officials and urged them to consolidate on the successes recorded by the immediate past leadership which they were part of.
He stressed that sports writing needs patients and persevering considering the strains involved in the art just as he also warned that anyone who goes into sports reporting with ulterior motive will definitely fail.
The SWAN Zonal vice president then advised the new leaders to carry every member along so that they will be able to achieve their set objectives in order to move the association forward positively.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, Comrade Umar Sa’idu called on SWAN members in the state to get united in order to be able to achieve their goals.
He promised to support the Association in organizing training for sports Journalists in the state in order to bring them up to date in the art of sports reporting which he said is changing with time and situation.
The immediate past Chairman, Nasiru Abdullahi Kobi, in his remarks, thanked members for giving him the opportunity to serve the association in various positions before topping it up with the Chairmanship for terms.
He promised to remain part of the association as long as he remains a Journalist stressing that he has learnt a lot of things from his membership of SWAN over the years.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Mahmud Yakubu Muhammad, promised to protect the image of SWAN against quackery at all times calling on the members to give him the support and cooperation needed to enable him to succeed.
Those elected and Inaugurated are, Mahmud Yakubu Muhammad of the NTA as Chairman, Ahmad Kaigama of Nan, Vice-chairman, Bala Bawaji of FRCN secretary, Elizabeth Kah of the Bauchi State television, Treasurer and Selya Yarnap of Daily Champion Newspapers as Financial secretary while the positions of Assistant Secretary and Welfare Officer would be determined by the newly elected officials.
