IN an effort to reintegrate and make life more meaningful for them after serving their various jail terms, wife of the Bauchi State Governor, Aisha Mohammed Abubakar has organised a vocational training for 49 ex-convicts she secured release for last year from Zaki, Tafawa-Balewa, Nabardo, Alkaleri, Ningi, Misau, Jama’are and Bauchi prisons respectively.

While speaking on Wednesday in Ningi headquarters of Ningi local government area while presenting various skill acquisition equipments to the freed inmates for the training, the Governor’s wife explained that the gesture was aimed at rehabilitating them and transforming them to be self-reliant so that they would not indulge in further criminal activities that might bring them back to the prisons.
According to her, she secured the release of 50  inmates on December 18th 2017 with minor cases and one special appeal from the State Controller of Prisons in respect of one Adamu Kolo on health ground.

She noted that the condition for releasing the inmates include having a guarantor who will make sure they undergo a vocational training in order to make them useful to the society as well as let them eke out a living, a condition she agreed to.
She, therefore, urged the ex-convicts to take the advantage of the opportunity given to them to become good citizens just as she urged all the local government councils chairmen where they hailed from to effectively monitor them in their reform process.
While speaking earlier in his palace when the Governor’s wife paid him the usual traditional visit, the Emir of Ning,  Alhaji Yunusa Mohammed Danyaya revealed that most of the inmates in the area are illiterate Fulani, he therefore called on government at all levels  to sponsor Fulani children to schools so that they would not be roaming about unnecessary thereby committing crimes.
The Emir also used the visit to commend the governor’s wife for her efforts at rehabilitation of the ex-convicts expressing optimism that with such efforts, crimes and criminal activities will reduce to the barest minimum in the society.
