Bauchi State gov lauds NYSC scheme for mentoring youths

BAUCHI State Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar has lauded NYSC for mentoring youth in the country adding that the scheme helps in harnessing their expertise and potentials for national development.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Audu Sule Katagum was speaking during the closing ceremony of the three weeks orientation camp and course of the 2019 Batch A Corps members deployed to the state held at the Wailo NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp on Tuesday, saying, “The achievements of the scheme in the area of Education, Health, Rural infrastructure, social improvement initiatives, Agriculture, Community Development and virtually all other aspects of our national life is legendary as it is visible for all to see.”

He added that “Indeed, Corps members have creditably acquitted themselves while on a specific national assignment such as national immunization programme, Guinea Worm eradication, elections and other sundry duties.”

Speaking earlier, State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Afolayan James declared that the scheme will use the manpower of the Corps members posted to the state to strengthen government’s programs in the area of adult and non-formal education in the state.

Afolayan James further said that all necessary arrangements were at an advanced stage with relevant agencies of the state for the take-off of the initiative.

According to him, another Community Development Service (CDS) designed by the NYSC this year include naming and numbering of streets in the state with a view to making them more traceable urging the Corps members to always be mindful of the motto and objectives of the scheme so that they would be guided to serve the nation conscientiously and meritoriously.
