Bauchi Senator, Shehu Buba, assures constituents of effective, developmental representation

Constituents of Bauchi South Senatorial District of Bauchi State have been assured of effective, efficient and developmental representation at the Senate for the next 4 years.

The assertion was made by the Senator representing the District, Shehu Buba Umar, while speaking at a one-day Bauchi South Stakeholders’ interactive session held on Saturday, 25th November, 2023 at the Event Centre, Bauchi.

He said, “Using the instrument of this kind of programme, we will drive the process of bringing positive change in the lives of our people through quality, responsible and result oriented representation insha Allah.

“After the previous effort to hold this event one week ago, we can all understand the role of our creator in making this quite historic occasion a reality.”

The Senator added that, “For those who honoured us with their presence, words of encouragement and other forms of support during both occasions of last week and today, we thank you very much for that. In fact, words alone cannot describe how we feel seeing the level of interest this programme has generated across various stakeholders in this great constituency of ours Bauchi South Senatorial District which is one of the largest as well as most blessed in the whole country.”

He equally used the opportunity to thank his teeming electorates for massively voting for him during the 2023 general elections. “As a politician and leader, I understand what it means to have the support of the people.”

According to him, the main idea behind convening the interactive session was to afford stakeholders representing various strata, interests, persuasions and goals from the Senatorial District with the opportunity to discuss matters of concern, interest and importance to people with a view to charting the way forward and providing solution to the issues.

“It is for this reason that the programme has as its theme: ‘Attaining a brighter future for Bauchi South Senatorial District through the 10th Assembly: A legislative Agenda for the Senator’. This means that we are here today to interact with one another, for me to feel the pulse of my people, share their problems, discuss their concerns and in a united and purposeful way, chart the path to progress, prosperity and transformation in Bauchi South District.”

He stressed that his stewardship so far is an eye-opener to the kind of representation, leadership and service “we are out to provide. In the space of the Five months of our stewardship so far, our efforts both on the floor of the Senate and across all aspects of my responsibility as the Senator representing this great constituency are properly documented and duly recorded such that a lot of our people understand clearly that we are out to work with other leaders and stakeholders to turn around the fortunes of our people.

“It is therefore my hope that through this kind of engagement, a sure realistic and sustainable path to achieving the socio-political, educational and other developmental goals of Bauchi South Senatorial District are realized,” he added.

Shehu Umar added that,”To go far on this journey, however, we need the wisdom of our elders, support and encouragement of our traditional rulers, the sound ideas of our scholars, guidance of religious clerics, energy and commitment of our youths, the determination of our women and the rest. Let us discuss the issues. Together, lets find and follow the way forward.”

Chairman of the interactive session, Yakubu Abdullahi Marafa, in his keynote address, said, “let me remind us that we are living in a democratic society operating a presidential system of government where powers are separated among the Executive, Legislative and the Judiciary, and having three tiers of Government comprising the Federal, States and Local Government Councils.”

“I consider it a great privilege and honour to stand before you at this great occasion namely “Bauchi South Stakeholders Interactive Session” initiated and sponsored by Distinguished Senator Shehu Buba Umar (Senate representing our Bauchi South Senatorial District.

“In fact, my delight does not rest on the esteem of distinguished invite guests but on the fact that our religion (Islam) provides that, “Whoever takes part in an act that will result into benefit to the populace is entitled to a gigantic reward in the hereafter.”

Yakubu Abdullahi added that, “It is in consideration of this that I support any gathering aimed at discussing issues selecting to the protection and preservation of rights of citizens regardless of their needs, ethnicity and social background.”

The former Grand Khadi of Bauchi State Sharia Court of Appeal stated that, “Ours is a society of multi linguistics, multi religious and multi- ethnic Society. In other words, the society is diverse.

“We need a very sound and strong system that will enhance our unity in diversity, a system that could not easily be shaken.”

“I am confident that the caliber of people gathered here today will bring up some suggestions that will ensure the sovereignty of our Nation,” he added.
