Bauchi State Executive Council (SEC) during its meeting on Wednesday, approved the medium-term expenditure of over N300 billion for the 2024 fiscal year.
The SEC meeting was presided over by the State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who approved the budget after extensive deliberations on a memo presented by the State Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning and Multilateral Coordination regarding the budget estimate.
While briefing Journalists on the council’s deliberations, Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Aminu Hammayo said that the budget for 2024 prioritizes capital expenditure at 58.8 per cent while recurrent expenditure represents 41.2 per cent of the total budget.
According to him, town hall meetings have been conducted across the three senatorial zones while Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) were asked to submit their proposal for incorporation into the budget.
Meanwhile, Governor Bala Mohammed is to present the 2024 budget estimate before the State House of Assembly on Thursday.
State Commissioner of Information and Communications, Hon Usman Garba Danturaki in his brief, said that the council also approved the renaming of the Ministry of Higher Education to Ministry of Higher Education and Regional Integration.
The Commissioner explained that the development was as agreed by the North East Governors Forum (NEGF) during their last meeting held in Yola last weekend.
