Bauchi PSN laments dearth of pharmaceutical companies in North East

Bauchi State Chapter of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has lamented that in the entire North-East subregion there is no industry that produces medicines and other pharmaceutical products just as it advocates training and recruitment of more Pharmacists in health facilities in order to satisfy the needs of the region.

The PSN, however, commended Bauchi state government for establishing a faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Bauchi State University, Gadau (BASUG) saying that it will go a long way in the training of Pharmacists for the need of the state.

Chairman of Bauchi PSN, Pharmacist Ismail Babangida Danjuma also advised medical Doctors to always consult Pharmacists in their hospitals before prescribing drugs to patients in order to minimize the wrong prescription insurances which have negative effects.

Pharmacist Isma’il Babangida Danjuma who spoke on Thursday in an interview with newsmen shortly after leading the newly elected executive members of the Society on a visit to the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu said that medical practice is teamwork with each member of the team expected to perform his own professional call.

He said that ” A Doctor is a master of Pathology, he is a master of diseases. He knows what disease is all about. The pharmacy is all about therapy, a Pharmacist looks everything in the angle of therapeutics”.

” You can see now all over the world, we talk about coronavirus, Lassa fever and hepatitis. I expect the whole world to listen and wait for the therapeutic, pharmaceutical perspective of coronavirus. That tells you who a pharmacist is”, he added.

” In Bauchi State, the practice of pharmacy has upgraded hospitals’ practice. There is one Pharmacist each in all General Hospitals in the state. No doctor can say that he has an exclusive right to prescribe drugs. Before any doctor will make a decision as it relates to drugs, he has to make an adequate consultation with those that are concerned who are Pharmacists”, the PSN Chairman explained.

Ismail Danjuma added that, ” During surgery, you must have confidence in that particular anaesthetics you are to administer not just knowing it. You must go for the one that has beaten the test of time. That is the essence of consulting a Pharmacist. A Doctor needs to be informed adequately, professionally and ethically”.

The Society during the visit announced that the Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu is now the Grand Patron for the state chapter.
