Bauchi Police nabs two for impersonating Bauchi Gov, defraud victims of N37m

Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects for impersonating Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir defrauding their victims of the various sum of money amounting to about N37 million.

While parading the suspects at the Command Headquarters in Bauchi on Monday, the Police Commissioner, Habu Sani Ahmadu said that the suspects connived and defrauded their victims of various sums of money under the pretext of securing Hajj seats for them at subsidized rate considering the price of N1. 5m which was the amount of the 2019 Hajj exercise.

He gave the names of the suspects as Iliyasu Ibrahim who acted as the ‘Governor’ while Sukuni Zakka acted as PA to the Governor who was always collecting the money from the victims who were lured to the front of the Government House where the deal was struck.

The Police Commissioner further said that On 28/09/2019 at about 1130hrs, based on intelligence, Command operatives attached ‘Operation Puff Adder’ arrested three suspects, Sukni Zakka 39 years old, Iliyasu Ibrahim ‘m’ 33 years and Mukaila Mohammed ‘m’ 29 years all of Dengi in Kanam LGA of Plateau State.

He explained that the suspects defrauded one Abdullahi Umar Abubakar of same address of the sum of N37,000,000:00 in the name of payment for 2019 Hajj pilgrimage through Bauchi State Government.

According to the Police Commissioner, Exhibits recovered from the suspects include; 26 International Passports, picture of Sen. Bala Mohammed Governor of Bauchi State, Application forms into Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, a bunch of charms declaring that the suspects have confessed to having committed the offence and are giving useful information to the Police.

While fielding questions from Journalists, the two suspects confessed to committing the crime saying however that it was done as a means of survival considering the economic downturn in the country pleading for forgiveness from the victims and the Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed.

They said that they were pushed into committing the crime by the devil declaring however that now they have realized their mistakes and promised to henceforth live a life of the good citizenry.
