Bauchi NYSC conduct one day medical outreach in host community

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has conducted a one-day free medical treatment for the Wailo community in Ganjuwa LGA of Bauchi State, where the Permanent Ordination camp of the Service is located.

The community was full of commendation for the NYSC members for embarking on the service to humanity as a part of its community service to the people.

The Village Head of the community, Malam Iliyasu Musa, made the commendation on behalf of the community in Wailo during the flag-off of the one-day medical outreach to the people of the community by NYSC.

Iliyasu Musa said that the gesture would significantly address the health challenges of the people in the area.

He said, “I would like to appreciate the coming of this programme into our community because this is the first time I will be seeing the management of the NYSC in our community with this kind of life-saving programme.”

The traditional ruler added, “We appreciate it because this NYSC has been here for over 20 years, but nothing like this has been done for the community as its host community.”

He added, “But the state Coordinator has brought this intervention here today, and you are highly appreciated,”

Also speaking, Hon. Dayyabu Ladan, a Member representing Ganjuwa East at the State House of Assembly, said that the programme would go a long way in assisting the people from the villages to have access to healthcare services that they may not have had access to.

Represented by one of his Aides, Mr Suleiman Mato, the lawmakers said, “I heard the state Coordinator saying that there are different kinds of drugs to be administered to the patients.”

He also said, “And in a situation where the sickness has gone beyond the outreach, it would be referred to either the state Specialist or Teaching hospital.

“We are highly grateful for this kind gesture.”

In her speech, the state Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, explained that the outreach was initiated under the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD).

According to her, the programme enhances access to quality healthcare service delivery in hard-to-reach and rural communities nationwide.

She listed some of the ailments to be treated, including malaria, typhoid, hypertension, diarrhea, cholera, and diabetes, among others.

Rifkatu Yakubu stated that the outreach is open to as many people as possible in the community, adding that the NYSC medical team was highly prepared for the exercise.

She said, “We urge all community members to avail themselves to benefit.”

“Let me use this medium to thank the Director General of NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Yushau Ahmed, who graciously approved the execution of this programme to benefit the Wailo community,” She concluded.
