A 20-year-old man, Safiyanu Dalhatu, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly beating his 40-year-old mother, Salma Abdullahi, to death with a pestle.
The incident occurred on February 24, 2025, in the Abujan Kwata area of Bauchi metropolis.
According to the police, Safiyanu allegedly assaulted his mother, resulting in fractures to both of her hands and other bodily injuries.
The police received a report from the Peace and Security Committee members in the area and promptly responded to the scene.
The victim was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi, where she was later confirmed dead.
Initial investigations suggest that an altercation between Safiyanu and his mother led to the assault. The police have recovered the pestle used in the incident and have commenced a thorough investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to handle the case, and the suspect will be prosecuted in court upon completion of the investigation.
