700 indigent students from various higher institutions in the Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency of Bauchi have received educational scholarships to support their academic pursuits to the tune of N20 million.
The gesture was by the Member representing Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency, Hon. Mansur Manu Soro, who disbursed the sum to the benefiting students.
While speaking during the distribution of the education grant to students at the Bauchi State University, Gadau, Yuli Campus, Bauchi, Mansur Manu Soro explained that the widespread hardship facing the students in raising tuition fees, especially at a time when universities and colleges are jerking up their fees to an all-time high, was responsible for the support.
Represented by a Member representing Ganjuwa West in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Garba Adamu, Mansur Manu Soro said that education remains the critical tool that emancipates nations from the shackles of slavery and the vicious cycle of illiteracy, poverty, unemployment, and diseases.
According to him, “This grant is given to encourage access to education by our younger ones through legislative intervention.
This is the third year we are facilitating this intervention, but I feel we are not doing enough. Hence my resolve to explore the possibility of introducing Darazo/Ganjuwa Educational Endowment Funds in 2024.”
In his remarks, the member representing Ganjuwa West in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Dayyabu Ladan, who chaired the selection committee, charged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the grants to actualize their academic goals.
He assured the beneficiaries that they would begin to receive notifications of credit payments into their various accounts within the shortest time.
Some of the benefiting students commended the gesture, saying that it would go a long way in alleviating their hardship following the astronomical increase in tuition and other fees.
