Working Journalists in Bauchi State under the aegis of Bauchi Public Health Media Network (BAPUMN) have resolved to carry out sustained awareness advocacy and reportage aimed at demystifying the myths and misconceptions associated with family health issues particularly Child Birth Spacing (CBS).
This is in a renewed effort to address challenges militating against the uptake of Child Birth Spacing (CBS) services in Bauchi State.
The resolution was contained in a communique issued at the end of a three-day media advocacy training on Child Birth Spacing held at the Chartwell Hotel Bauchi recommending that the select group of Journalists should develop human interesting stories that could change the misconceptions some members of the public are still nursing regarding CBS.
While acknowledging the myths and misconceptions surrounding CBS within the community and family circles, the communique pointed out that CBS is still the best and safest way to motherhood, because it enables mothers to regain their healthfully before another pregnancy.

The communique also brought to bear some of the negative attitude associated with some health workers as another factor that undermines accessing CBS services at the health centres.
While Speaking to our correspondent, a participant, who also doubles as NTA reporter and chairperson of the group, Mrs Bulak Afsa said that she had always been an advocate of CBS and that the training has reinforced her commitment towards projecting CBS issues at any given opportunity.
Another participant, Mrs Suzanne Edeh, a correspondent of Independent Newspaper in Bauchi said the three days training has exposed her to some of the misconception nursed by some people and that she intends to correct some of the challenges through one on one interface and her reportage on CBS and other public health hazards.
The training that attracted 27 Journalists from both Print and Electronics, also has in attendance some Information officers from selected LGAs of Bauchi State and it was organized by the State Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-funded project, The Challenge Initiative and was implemented by Devcoms Network.
