Bauchi govt reiterates commitment to full implementation of guidelines, tools for safe schools

Bauchi State Ministry for Education has reiterated the commitment of the state government to the full implementation of the guidelines and tools for safe schools in the state.

The assertion was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Aliyu Babayo, at the commencement of training on a multi-sectoral costed plan of action for appropriate implementation of Safe School Declaration Bill 2024.

The training held in Bauchi was organised by a CSO, Syndicate in Supporting Women and Children Initiatives (SISWACHI), and it is for relevant stakeholders in the implementation of the project.

The Permanent Secretary assured the gathering of the Ministry’s readiness to swing into action for the implementation as soon as the SSD becomes a law in Bauchi State.

Speaking earlier, Ms Sadiya Iliyasu, Executive Director of SISWACHI, said that the training aims to prepare the line ministries to achieve the desired safety in schools when the bills finally become law in the state.

She said that the one-day training aimed to bring stakeholders to understand the various methodologies to adopt in the costed plan.

The SISWACHI ED also said that the exercise was in collaboration with the Women Advocates Research and Document Centre (WARDC) and funded by the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDF).

According to her, “As we embark on this journey together, it’s essential to recognise the significance of a structured and well-resourced action plan.”

Sadiya Iliyasu added that “the SSD bill has passed second reading in. Bauchi State, so it will be a milestone; the need for us to come together and have a clear understanding of how to develop our costed plans using the appropriate methodologies could not be overemphasised.”

She further said that a robust framework would guide our actions and maximise the desired impact.”

She then disclosed that the participants were drawn from the Ministries of Budget and Economic Planning, Women Affairs, Education, Humanitarian, and Security agencies.
