Bauchi govt honours 103 healthcare heroes

The Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board recently honored 103 individuals for their outstanding contributions to healthcare delivery in the state.

The awardees included Forty-Nine Traditional leaders popularly called Mai Unguwa from the Six Emirate Councils in the State, Twenty Community Health Influences, Promoters, Services (CHIPS), Ten members of Ward Development Committees (WDC), Twenty members of Mama3Mama volunteers and Four members of the Father for Good Health (F4H).

The awards and recognition were done during the 2024 Annual Recognition and Awards Ceremony for Best Performing Mai Unguwas and Community Resource Groups (CRGs) organized by the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman, Bauchi State Emirate Committee on Health (BASECOH), Co-Chair, State Taskforce on Primary Healthcare (STF-PHC), and Emir of Dass, Alh Usman Bilyaminu Othman commended the recipients for their dedication to duty and focus in attending to clients.

The Emir reiterated the determination of the traditional institutions to key into the various programmes on the promotion of effective and efficient service delivery services in the health sector.

He added that with the involvement of the traditional institutions in the primary healthcare sector, the situation has greatly improved.

The Emir commended the Primary Healthcare Development Board for the tremendous achievements so far recorded in the state urging it to do more for the people of the state.

Also speaking, Commissioner of Health, Dr. Sani Mohammed Dambam commended the Primary Healthcare Development Board for sustaining the reward programme over the years saying that it has gone a long way in motivating the staff.

The Commissioner stressed that the government is committed to ensuring that health services reach the citizens of the State at all levels with particular attention on primary healthcare levels.

He stressed that the State Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has made health services topmost priority of his administration since 2019 disclosing that tremendous achievements have been recorded.

Earlier in his welcome address, Executive Chairman of Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed said that the award is meant to serve as an incentive for good performance.

He added that the recipients were carefully selected by the Committee which worked independently but with close monitoring of the people with particular focus on their contributions to effective and efficient service delivery at the facilities.

Rilwanu Mohammed then assured that the Board will continue to provide an enabling environment for health workers and supporting staff to function.
