Bauchi govt, firm sign MoU to boost ICT infrastructure

In a bold move towards enhancing technological advancements, the Bauchi State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Galaxy Backbone Limited to revolutionise the state’s ICT infrastructure.

The signing of the agreement, which took place at the Government House in Bauchi on Wednesday, was presided over by the State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir.

The governor emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring a “zero-right-of-way” policy for communication companies, a strategy aimed at removing barriers to ICT development and fostering a robust digital environment in the state.

Speaking during the event, Bala Mohammed outlined the key benefits Bauchi State stands to gain from the partnership.

The Governor outlined the benefits, which include robust digital infrastructure, stating that the MoU promises to provide modern and efficient ICT systems for government and public use.

He also stated that there will be enhanced government service delivery as the agreement will streamline processes, making government services more accessible and efficient.

On professional data management and security, the governor stated that advanced systems will ensure data is securely stored and managed while economic development will be strengthened by embracing ICT. The state aims to attract investments and stimulate economic growth.

Another benefit is comprehensive technical support, as the agreement includes round-the-clock technical support to maintain the integrity of systems and 24/7 professional ICT assistance, as constant assistance will ensure minimal downtime for government operations.

On capacity development, he stated that training programs will equip civil servants and residents with the necessary ICT skills.

Bala Mohammed then expressed optimism about the collaboration, noting that the partnership aligns with his administration’s vision of digital transformation and sustainable development.

He added that the zero-right-of-way policy would significantly reduce the cost and ease the installation of ICT infrastructure, thereby attracting more companies to invest in the state.

In his remarks, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju praised Bauchi State for its forward-thinking approach to technology. He assured the government and citizens of Galaxy’s commitment to delivering top-notch services and fostering innovation.

With this partnership, Bauchi State is set to emerge as a leader in ICT development in Nigeria, setting a benchmark for other states to emulate.

The initiative is expected to create jobs, improve the quality of life for residents, and position the state as a hub for technological growth.

The event was attended by the Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone Limited, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, alongside the company’s management team.

Representing the Bauchi State Government were the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Communication, Comrade Usman Garba DanTukari, and the Director-General of the Bureau for ICT.
