Bauchi govt establishes traffic management authority

In its determination to promote safety on the roads and ensure adherence to traffic regulations, Bauchi State Government is to establish an agency to be known as ‘Bauchi State Traffic Management Authority (BATMA).

Already, the State Executive Council (SEC) has approved the establishment of the Authority which will be saddled with the responsibility of regulating and to sanitise traffic system across the state as is done in other states across the country.

While briefing newsmen on the outcome of the SEC meeting held on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim, said that the State Council Meeting which was presided over by the Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed, discussed and agreed on the need to have the agency considering the increasing number of road users in the state.

Abdulkadir Ibrahim further said that the establishment of the agency is to ensure effective traffic management in the state as well as provide job opportunities to the numerous unemployed youths and women in the state.

Also, briefing journalists, the Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Umar Adamu, said that the Council agreed to harness potentials of the state as part of strategies of improving the internally generated revenue which at present is not encouraging.

The Commissioner said that the Council considered various ways to be used in order to boost the IGR assuring that very soon the government will make public the various modalities for the revenue generation without making it hard on the people.

Newly appointed Commissioner for Information and Communications, Alhaji Garba Dahiru, who was sworn in on Wednesday, while describing Journalists as partners in progress, solicited for their maximum support for the success of the present administration in the state.

Garba Dahiru who had served under the administration of Isa Yuguda as Commissioner of Finance, Special Adviser and Deputy Chief of Staff applauded working Journalists in the state for their support and cooperation to the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed and called for its sustenance.

He assured that as the Chief Image manager of the state, he will operate an open door calling however for constructive criticism and advice that will make the state move on positively.
