Bauchi govt distributes food palliatives to 28 boarding Tsangaya schools

Bauchi State Government on Tuesday commenced distribution of food items to twenty-eight boarding and integrated Qur’anic Tsangaya Schools across the state with a total population of 8,261 students.

The benefitting schools were allocated 312 bags of sorghum, 275 bags of maize and 115 bags of millet as part of measures to cushion the economic hardship being faced by Nigerians.

While flagging off the distribution, State Commissioner of Education Dr Jamila Mohammed Dahiru, at Government Girls College Bauchi said that the food items were provided by the State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

Represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Ali Babayo, the Commissioner said that the present administration acknowledged the global trend of economic downturn and deemed it fit to extend the allocation of food palliative to boarding schools.

She appreciated the State Governor, Bala Mohammed for the gesture just as thanked security agencies especially the EFCC for working to ensure that the items were delivered safely without diversion.

Speaking earlier, the Director, School Services in the Ministry, Malama Fatima Musa said that the allocation was done based on the students’ population across the benefitting schools and called on the principals to ensure judicious utilisation of the items.

Speaking on behalf of the School Managers, the State President, All Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Comrade Rabiu Shehu said the food palliative to schools was timely and assured to utilise the items for the benefit of students.
