Bauchi govt approves N70,000 minimum wage for workers

Bauchi State Government has joined the league of states in Nigeria that have agreed to pay the N70,000 minimum wage to civil servants.

The announcement was made by the State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir at the opening of the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held on Wednesday at the Executive Council Chambers of the Gov Office.

The Governor said that his administration will commence payment of the new minimum wage at the end of November 2024 to serve as a motivation to the Civil Servants who have been agitated since States announced their readiness to pay the new minimum wage.

Bala Mohammed however expressed disturbance over the recent report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) that the State and others are placed around the poverty-striking states in the country despite his administration’s many developmental projects and initiatives aimed at putting food on the table of the people particularly, the common people.

Bala Mohammed said that such reports would serve as a wake-up call to the Government and enjoined members of the Council to reiterate commitment and restrategise towards delivering more dividends of democracy to the people.

The Governor added that his administration will remain focused and committed towards addressing the backlog of gratuity owed retired civil servants in the state and appealed to the affected people to continue to be patient with the administration.
