Bauchi governor flags off free medical services, distributes midwifery kits

In continuation of activities marking his first 100 days in office, Bauchi State Governor,  Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed on Wednesday flagged off a three days free medical services at Specialist Hospital, Bauchi as well as  the distribution of Midwifery Kits to newly qualified Basic/Community, Midwives, 66 Motorcycles and 20 laptop computers to some selected Primary Healthcare Centres.

While speaking at the occasion, the Governor said that the move was part of the determination of his administration towards the training of basic midwifery in the state saying that already, funds have been released for the accreditation of courses at the College of Nursing, Bauchi.

The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, (SSG), Alhaji Mohammed Sabi’u Baba, explained that the funds cover the establishment of Community Midwifery Programme, Renovation of students hostels, main library and office block, and construction of a common room among others.

He also said that the resolve of the present administration in the state to purchase the delivery kits as part of measures to ease the hardship encountered during the delivery period, as according to him, the kits are comprehensive enough to aid in receiving delivery in any health facility thereby reducing the maternal mortality rate.

The Governor noted that training of basic healthcare personnel is one of the most important tools for the provision of maternal services required for ensuring meaningful development in the health sector and called for the use of the distributed commodities for the advancement of the sector.

Bala Mohammed who reiterated the commitment of his administration for the provision of health for all assured that the present administration would continue to support programmes meant to facilitate the provision of basic healthcare services to the people of the state.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Health, Dr Yahaya Yarima said the ministry has recorded remarkable achievements within the first one hundred days of the present administration of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.
