Bauchi gov reassures Christian community of inclusive governance

Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, has reassured the Christian community in the state that his administration will continue to involve them in the business of governance.

The Governor was speaking on Wednesday evening when he hosted the Christian Community under the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to an Iftar (Ramadan fast-breaking) at the New Banquet Hall of the Government House.

Bala Mohammed expressed his delight over the cordial relationship existing in the state, stressing that Bauchi remains the most peaceful in the North East subregion and one of the most peaceful in the country.

He said, “The Christian Community is always appreciative of our modest contribution to the development of the state. You are always thanking us for the little things we are doing for you. This is pushing us to do more for you.”

The Governor added that his administration will never discriminate against any religion because, according to him, “If God wanted, he would have made us all the same, but he chose to create us differently. Why then should that be a barrier to peaceful coexistence?”

He also assured that his administration will embark on the massive renovation of the three theological institutions in the state to ensure quality and standard education, just as he added that Christian Religious Education Teachers will be recruited for the schools in the state.

Bala Mohammed, who recounted the political support he has been receiving from the Christian Community, stressed that the only way to repay them is to ensure that they are involved in the act of governance.

On the issue of the Christian graveyard, which has lingered over the years, the Governor apologised to the Christian community and assured them that he would handle the situation himself, considering that all those saddled with the responsibility, including his Deputy, have failed to resolve the issue.

Speaking earlier, Senior Special Assistant on Christian Affairs, Pastor Zakka Luka Magaji, reassured the Governor that the Christian Community will remain grateful to the Governor for the good things his administration has done for the community.

He stressed that many churches have benefitted from the generosity of the Governor by way of support for building auditoriums or pastoriums, as well as other forms of support.

In his remarks, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Bauchi State, Rev Dr Abraham Damina Dimeus, stated that the Christian community will continue to be on the side of the Governor, having demonstrated his love for them.

He stressed that the Governor has never hidden his love for the Christian community since he was elected and inaugurated in 2019, pointing out that the community has not had it better than now.

The CAN Chairman repeatedly told the Governor to rely on the Christian community for his political profession, assuring that the Community remains behind him all the time.
