Bauchi Gov pledges support as windstorm destroy 11 villages, kills 3

Windstorm has claimed three lives and destroyed eleven villages in Duguri district of Alkaleri local government area in Bauchi State just as the State  Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar has directed the State Emergency Management Agency to assess the number of houses and schools affected by the windstorm.

A press statement by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Malam Abubakar Al-Sadique, contained that the Governor gave the directive when he paid a sympathy visit to the affected communities.

The Governor who said his administration will work out modalities for assisting the affected communities to pick up life after the destruction suffered, commended youths in the area for embracing agriculture as means of earning a living.

He emphasized that his administration will continue to pay priority attention to “agriculture, solid mineral mining and tourism.”   

On infrastructural development in the state, the Governor expressed disappointment that the Alkaleri-Futuk road, constructed by the past administration had “virtually collapsed just three years after the construction, as against ten to fifteen years in the life of a standard road construction.”

He explained that contract for the construction of culverts on the road has been awarded to a reputable company in order to facilitate the movement of equipment to oil prospecting sites.  

The Governor who was conferred with the traditional title of ‘Jakadan Duguri’ by the District Head of Duguri, Alhaji Ibrahim Y. M. Baba, revealed that his administration is pursuing the establishment of petroleum training institute in the local government area and already presented a request to the Minister of Petroleum Resources in that direction.
