A famous psychiatrist in Nigeria and pioneer Professor of Neuro Surgeon in Bauchi state, Professor Abdu Ibrahim, is dead.
He died on Thursday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) after a protracted illness which had to do with old age. The burial prayers was held at the Bauchi Emir’s Palace by 5:30pm the same day according to Islamic injunctions.
He was famous for treating and taking care of psychiatric patients during his active service years at the Bauchi General Hospital, later Specialists Hospital and then Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH).
Professor Abdu Ibrahim during his active years, was an advocate of a drug free society as he embarked on campaigns against drug use and addiction even before the establishment of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) by the Federal Government.
Meanwhile, Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, who is currently in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for Hajj exercise, commiserated with the family, friends and associates of late Professor Abdu Ibrahim.
The Governor described the death of Professor Abdu Ibrahim as a great loss not only to the members of his immediate family but also to the people of Bauchi State and the entire nation.
He stated that late Professor Abdu Ibrahim will greatly be remembered by the citizens of the State because of his dogged commitment and enormous contributions in the area of healthcare delivery system since the Creation of Bauchi State.
Bala Mohammed stated that, “As the first Professor of Neuro Surgeon in Bauchi State , late Professor Abdu Ibrahim was a Nationalist, a Public Healthcare Icon”, describing his death as a monumental loss to the entire nation.
The Governor on behalf of his family , government and the good people of Bauchi State expressed his deep condolences to members of his immediate family, friends, colleagues, associates and the entire people of Bauchi State.
He prayed that Allah will bless him with Aljanna firdaus , grant his family and the entire citizens of Bauchi State the fortitude to bear the loss as contained in a by Mukhtar Gidado, Special Adviser Media and Publicity to the Governor.
