Bauchi gov lauds understanding between govt, traditional rulers

Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has declared that the collaboration between the government and the traditional institution will significantly strengthen the existing cordial relationship between the two parties.

The Governor made this declaration on Monday during his address at the Government House, when His Royal Highness, the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji (Dr) Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, paid homage to him as part of the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Salah Durbar, popularly called Hawan Daushe.

The Governor stated, “I am very delighted to welcome His Royal Highness, the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji (Dr) Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, CFR, to the Government House, along with his District Heads and other traditional titleholders in his Emirate, to pay homage to me as part of the activities marking this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration.”

Represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Auwal Muhammad Jatau, the Governor stressed, “The sustenance of this age-long tradition is a manifestation of the support and honor I enjoy from the traditional institution in the State.”

He further stated, “As a government established through a popular mandate freely given by the people of the State, we are not only committed to bringing about positive change in the lives of the people but also to ensuring the protection of lives and property of all citizens.”

Bala Mohammed emphasized, “We are committed to creating an environment where all citizens can pursue their lawful activities without obstruction. Since assuming office in 2019 and following our subsequent re-election in 2023, we have embarked on providing infrastructural facilities and social amenities across the State.”

“You will bear witness that these initiatives have positively transformed the lives of the people of Bauchi State. Ours is a government determined to do more with the limited resources available,” he added.

The Governor further stated, “This requires prudent management of resources and plugging leakages to free up funds for the execution of various projects. While we strive to ensure value for money, we also seek the support and cooperation of traditional rulers to succeed in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.”

“I, therefore, call on Your Royal Highness and your colleagues, the other Emirs in the State, to educate your people on the government’s efforts and appeal for their continued understanding and support,” he added.

The Governor also remarked, “Let me use this opportunity to remind Your Royal Highness of the vital role traditional rulers play in maintaining law and order within their domains through vigilance and prayers, complementing the government’s efforts in this regard.”

He explained that, “This call has become more imperative now, more than ever before, due to the security challenges faced by some of our border communities. Recently, there have been reports of kidnapping and banditry in Bula District, along our border with Plateau State.”

He added, “While the government is collaborating with security agencies to address these and other security challenges across the State, I urge our traditional rulers to prevail upon their people to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or persons to security agencies.”

According to him, “As we work to attract investors to the State, we cannot afford to allow security challenges to discourage them from investing. I also call on traditional rulers to promote mutual respect and peaceful coexistence among their people, regardless of ethnic, religious, or political differences, while fostering a spirit of forgiveness, tolerance, and love.”

Speaking earlier, the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, praised the various achievements of the government over the years, stating that the State has undergone positive changes.

The Emir particularly commended the Governor, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, for ensuring equitable distribution of infrastructural development across the State, leaving no part behind.

He also lauded the Governor for implementing impactful governance that has embraced every segment of the State, a development that has contributed to the relative peace being enjoyed.

The Emir reiterated the traditional institution’s determination to continue supporting the administration’s policies and programs to build a thriving society.

However, he appealed for more infrastructural facilities in the Emirate, particularly the opening up of rural areas to attract further development.
