Bauchi gov advocates modern technique for livestock production

Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir has suggested the adoption of modern techniques for livestock production considering the significant role of Veterinary sub-sector in the area of Public Health, Preventive Medicine, food security and safety among others.

The Governor made the suggestion on Thursday while declaring open the 2019 Professional Continuing Education Seminar of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria held at Zaranda Hotel Bauchi and announced the readiness of his administration to key into the Federal Government’s livestock Plan.

Bala Mohammed while applauding President Muhammadu Buhari for the initiative, observed that it will go a long way towards addressing some of the challenges currently facing the country in that sector.

He noted that, in view of the importance of Veterinary profession, the present administration in the state is making concerted efforts to salvage the sector through collaboration with relevant stakeholders in order to invest in the livestock sub-sector.

Bala Mohammed also said that his administration has decided to sustain the Veterinary Students manpower training scheme as the state has 97 Veterinarians and 141 Veterinary students presently on training across the country.

The Governor described the theme of the seminar ‘Security and Economic Challenges to Livestock Production in Nigeria’ as very timely, considering the current challenges facing the livestock industry in the country.

In his address, Chairman of the occasion, Professor JT Ogundipe appealed to the state government to modernise Abattoir and Veterinary clinic in order to ensure a healthy environment.

Earlier in his opening speech, the National President of the Council, Professor Bello Mohammed said that the seminar was to improve the knowledge of the participants so as to look into the possibility of addressing the challenges facing the sector in the country.
