Bauchi communities vow to reject failed politicians

ELECTORATES in Dass, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro local government areas which make up the Federal Constituency in Bauchi state have resolved not to vote for an elective second term, politicians who have failed to deliver on their campaign promises.

The communities made the submission on Wednesday during a one-day development of Vote4WASH campaign pledge card development stakeholders meeting organised by Network for Civil Society Organization for Water and Sanitation in Nigeria, (NEWSAN) in collaboration with WaterAid of Nigeria, held in Dass.

The Stakeholders which comprised of religious leaders, physically challenged persons, media, traditional rulers and Civil Society Organizations from the three local government area, pledged to use their votes to demand for improved services in the area of water and sanitation, education, health amongst other prioritized needs.

In their separate submissions of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, WASH priorities, the Secretary of Tafawa Balewa Youth Development Association, Abdullahi Yahaya Bununu said that the local government which has a population of 313,988 has only 38 Water sanitation facilities stressing that only 44% of the population at the local government has access to safe drinking water.

“We are calling on the government to build special latrines in every ward in Dass local government for people living with disabilities because of the difficulties we experience in using public latrines” Aminu Yusuf, a physically challenged person from Dass local governments said.

The Spoke persons for Bogoro and Dass local government, Mr Sunday Shettima and Kande Abdullahi, demanded for the provision of improved public latrines in markets, hospitals, motor parks and schools as well as rehabilitation of broken boreholes, provision of waste management facilities and drainages.

Earlier in his address, the Programme Manager, Women Development Association for Self- Sustenance, Mr Sukumun Ezekiel said that with the election around the corner, citizens should use their votes to demand for improved Water, Sanitation and Hygiene services from candidates seeking electorates electoral offices instead of selling their birthrights for a morsel of bread.
