Bauchi: Association berates MURIC over opposition to Sayawa Chiefdom

The Zaar Development Association (ZDA) has condemned the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) for its opposition to the proposed creation of the Sayawa Chiefdom in Bauchi State. MURIC’s leader, Professor Ishaq Akintola, had urged Governor Bala Mohammed not to establish the Chiefdom, claiming it would be a Christian Chiefdom.

The ZDA described MURIC’s statement as “a collection of misinformation, deceit, threats, and propaganda.”

The association emphasized that the proposed Chiefdom does not contravene any constitutional law and will not institutionalise religious discrimination.

According to the ZDA, the creation of the Sayawa Chiefdom is a positive step towards inclusivity, cultural recognition, and peaceful coexistence among the people of Bauchi State and Nigeria.

The association expressed confidence that Governor Bala Mohammed will not be swayed by MURIC’s threats and will establish the Chiefdom as planned.

The ZDA also cautioned MURIC and others to engage constructively, rather than sowing seeds of division.

The association emphasised that the Chiefdom is aimed at providing a platform for all ethnic and religious groups in the area to work together for the common good.
