Bauchi Assembly declares support for liberation of woman, assures of legislation that protects her

Bauchi State House of Assembly has declared that it will join the campaign for the liberation of the woman by enacting relevant laws that will protect her and make her feel more like the human being that she is.

The declaration was made by the Speaker of the House, Abubakar Y Suleiman while recovering members of the United Nations Women organization, He4She with support from Alert International in his office during an advocacy visit.

The Speaker who stressed the importance of freedom for the woman said that her happiness is the happiness of all considering her role in the house and the society at large.

He added that members of the House have been championing the cause of the woman since their inauguration considering the number of resolutions so far made adding that the Assembly was among the first few to have passed the VAPP law.

Abubakar Suleiman said that the woman has the right to be involved in decision making particularly in the home as it affects her and her children as well as on issues of security and right to education.

While commending the NGO for honouring as the ‘He4She Ambassador’ in Bauchi state, he assured that he will continue to do his best as an individual to promote and advocate for the good and protection of the woman.

Earlier, Bauchi State Coordinator of He4She, Jinjiri Garba told the Speaker that it was in recognition of his contributions to the welfare and well being of the woman that the NGO in consultation with other relevant NGOs in the state decided to make him ‘He4She Ambassador’.

The Coordinator commended the Speaker for leading the Assembly in recognition of the role of the woman through the various activities especially resolutions that affect her as well as the passage of the VAPP law.

He then said that with his recognition as He4She Ambassador in the state, it is his responsibility to give useful advice, direction and support to the activities of the organization to enable it to achieve its set objectives and goals of protecting the woman.
