A rising Christian gospel musician, popularly known as Barry Jesus, has upped his act with his unique brand in the fold of gospel musicians of Nigeria.
He recently thrilled audience at a funeral ceremony in Lagos where he spectacularly blended the late Sikiru Ayinde Barrister’s style with core gospel genre and commensurably earned applause of his hosts and their guests.
His well-arranged band comprises experienced drummers, guitarists, pianist, saxophonist and flexible back up vocalists, all of whom complemented Barry Jesus measured singing pace.
Speaking after the performance, he paid tribute to the late Barrister whom he described as the fire behind his smoke on stage, pointing out that his style, patterned after Barristers, was deliberate to immortalize the fuji musician who died in 2010.
In a flowing agbada matched with a cap, Barry Jesus, a graduate of Biochemistry, explained that his band is open for engagement beyond churches, saying music is universal and there is not point he would restrict his fans base to Christianity.
“The message I am passing is not meant for the ears of Christians alone, other faiths also listen and pick one or two lessons therefrom to shape their life and at the same time make heaven. Heaven is our final abode as barrister always sang during his life time.
“Therefore, I sing to human souls. But this is not to say that the stage should be dry. No. I have a set of back up who have gained a lot of experience in music. I think they are complementing my music and doing it well,” he said.
The musician whose name is Samuel Amubieya, assured that he would stop at nothing in facing challenges which are associated with showbiz in Nigeria, especially just as he expressed appreciation to his fans who consistently show faith in him and his brand of music.
