This year lecture is termed, ” The challenges of the Judiciary to Democracy; The Nigeria Perspective” is to be delivered by the Emir of Gunmi, HRH Justice (rtd) Lawal Hassan Gunmi at the conference Hall of Umar Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto on Saturday.
In a release signed by Alhaji Lawal Ali Garba and made available to journalists in in Sokoto, he disclosed that the chairman of the occasion is the former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon who also doubles as the chairman board of trustees of the association.

The statement further disclosed that Vice President, Professor Yemi Osibanjo is expected to be a special guest while the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar lll. Also expected at the occasion is Sokoto state Governor, Rt Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Governor Nazir El-Rufai of Kaduna state.
Other important dignitaries expected at the event includes Eng. Dahiru Ibrahim who is the national president of the association, Dr Umaru Abdulmutallab, the chairman of BCCC of the association and many other important personality in all walks of life.
It will be recalled that Barewa college, Zaria was at various times formerly known as Katsina Training college, Katsina High College, Kaduna College, Zaria Secondary School, Governmennt College, Zaria and now recently Barewa college, Zaria.
The school was first established in Katsina as Katsina Training college in 1921, mainly to train Teachers for Nothern Province. The college move to Zaria as Zaria Secondary School in 1949, while the name Barewa was adopted in 1971.
