There he is, sitting in sombre darkness with eyes red as burning coal and breath as malodorous as the most nauseating sulphur. His palace is dingy, his throne rusty, his crown a mortal’s skull and at his smile, legions of fiends are exorcised from hell’s core. He disseminates a cavalry into our earth by day, a flotilla of wraiths dock on earth’s shore by dark, awaiting his beacon to unleash destruction and at dawn, thousands of winged creatures, shrieking in the most daunting manner, invade the skies above our earth in incalculable squadrons. Like the many hands of the Indian goddess Durga, his visage takes on varying forms in a futile bid to quench his insatiable blood thirsty appetite. On some days, he is a replica of the typical belligerent Middle Eastern, an irascible extremist that goes by the acronym ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) and unleashes untold on the people.
On other days, he shape shifts into a vampire called Al-Qaeda. This deadly sect spurred and participated actively in several wars in the regions of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Somali. This arid land demon fueled insurgency in the Maghreb, Yemen as well as pioneered the Arab Spring. Some other days, when he is slightly bored with the mountainous sands of the desert, its scorching sun and crispy dry air, he vacates to a continent, known for his lushness and fertility – Africa. On days like that, he is called Boko Haram, ravisher of Northern Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon. His tentacles are speedily spreading over the continents of the earth like those of the legendary sea monster, the Kraken. His desire is to crush our world like the Kraken annihilates a stray ship and its occupants.
Horrifyingly, it looks as though he is gradually taking our world over as the reality of vicious attacks launched by his fiends strategically scattered all over the continents of our universe begins to kick in. How devastating was the attack in Spain? According to reports, a rented white Fiat van, rammed into pedestrians outside a kosher restaurant on a busy street in Barcelona shortly after 5 p.m on that horrendous day last week. The van veered onto the promenade and barreled down the busy walkway in central Barcelona for 500 metres, swerving back and forth as it mowed pedestrians down and turned a picturesque tourist destination into a bloody killing zone.
Victims were left sprawled in the street, spattered with blood or writhing in pain from broken limbs. Others fled in panic through Las Ramblas, screaming or carrying young children in their arms. At least 13 people were confirmed killed and 100 others injured. Mothers were separated from children and children were missing… The horror was articulately described by Aamer Anwar, a lawyer and rector of the University of Glasgow who was walking through La Ramblas at the time of the attack and heard chilling screams. Mr Anwar told reporters this: “I was walking down Las Ramblas for something to eat. Part of it was in the shade so I decided to keep walking down and literally within 10 seconds there was a crashing noise.
“I turned around and people were screaming – I could see a woman screaming with her kids – people started running and jumping into shops. I ran for about 50 or 100 metres and stopped to see what was happening.” British tourist Keith Welling, who arrived in Barcelona with his wife and 9-year-old daughter, said they saw the van drive past them down the avenue and took refuge in a restaurant when panic broke out and the crowd started running.
“People were shouting and we heard a bang and someone cried that it was a gunshot … Me and my family ran into the restaurant along with around 40 other people. At first people were going crazy in there, lots of people crying, including a little girl around three years old.”
The attack on La Ramblas was not the only one as residents of the Spanish seaside resort of Cambrils fled in terror in the early hours of Friday, 18 August, after five terrorists wearing suicide vests launched the second ramming attack in the country. At least six people were hurt when the attackers drove into pedestrians before being shot dead by security forces, just hours after a similar attack in La Ramblas.
Of the six civilians caught up in the Cambrils attack, two were said to be in a serious condition and one later died according to an official Twitter account. With a sardonic smile and a smug expression like after every other attack, “Soldiers” of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) have claimed responsibility for the attack. In this sick game of harvesting as much humans as possible with the Grimm’s sickle, the dark lord isn’t folding his cards. He willingly reveals them for every human to see and they clearly read obliteration, extirpation and eradication of homosapiens. What are our cards saying?
Prime Minister Theresa May expressed being “sickened by the senseless loss of life in Barcelona”. Her words: “My thoughts are with the victims of today’s terrible attack in Barcelona and the emergency services responding to this ongoing incident,” she said. “The UK stands with Spain against terror. Following the attacks in Manchester and London, Spain stood alongside the British people. Britain stands with Spain against the evil of terrorism.”
In the same manner, the U.S. President, Donald Trump wrote on Twitter: “The United States condemns the terror attack in Barcelona, Spain, and will do whatever is necessary to help. Be tough & strong, we love you!”
However, would these talks of solidarity, empathy and condolence push the human race closer to the much needed deliverance and salvation from these savages? Will these pep talks rescue man from the carnage these fiends spread like a cancer? Desperate times call for desperate measures. Every continent of the world must regard ISIS as the common enemy and quit racism and hate crimes. We must align our forces (White, Black, Red…) to wipe them out or we will be like the people of the Seven Kingdoms, slaying ourselves over the Iron Throne (supremacy) while the Night King’s army grows indomitable. ISIS is the common enemy and the formation of a coalition, may be our only hope but how do we achieve anything if the human race is divided against itself?
