‘Barbie’ movie breaks record, hits billion dollar mark in 3 weeks

By: Oluwabukunmi Akinyemi

According to a report by Warner Bros, the blockbuster movie Barbie now makes history as it amassed over $1 billion following its release 3 weeks ago.

According to Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst at Comscore, only about 50 historical movies have hit the billion-dollar mark, including movies like Avengers Endgame, Black Panther and Avatar.

According to CNN, the movie’s success has made Greta Gerwig the first female solo director with a billion-dollar movie.

Following the Barbie/Oppenheimer phenomenon, it was no shock to see the Barbie movie doing so well at the box office.

The movie’s marketing campaign was the first to hint that “Barbie” would be a box office success.

The marketing campaign for the Barbie movie set into motion a chain of events that led to the pop culture word ‘Barbenheimer’ because of its shared release date with ‘Oppenheimer.’

Since its release 3 weeks ago, the blockbuster has attained and maintained top ranks on different movie charts worldwide and is steadily spreading its influence as it has spurred various internet trends.
