President, Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary (NBTS), Ogbomoso, Professor Ola Ayankeye, has described as worrisome the fact that some gospel ministers are leading reckless lives.
Ayankeye expressed this worry while addressing newsmen ahead of the 2023 Ministers’ Conference of the NBTS Ogbomoso, scheduled to be held from September 11 to 14, within the premises of the seminary.
Ayankeye said gospel ministers were expected to live lives that lead people to be God-fearing and not away from God.
Though he acknowledged that all members of the society had a duty towards ensuring the transformation of the society, Ayankeye said this would be faster achieved if driven by ministers of the gospel who have been so empowered.
He said: “The theme of the conference, “Vessel for Honour” is relevant to the current situation in Nigeria where some gospel ministers live recklessly.
“While the gospel ministers are to lead people to be God-fearing, it is the responsibility of all and sundry to participate in the transformation of the society.
“This will be possible and faster if the gospel which is God’s power unto salvation is handled by vessels well molded.”
With new leadership at the federal level, Ayankeye tasked political officeholders and citizens alike to commit to be law-abiding and working for a better nation.
“We call on all political office holders and all others in government to live in gratitude to God for having granted us peaceful elections in Nigeria.
“The citizenry should also be law abiding and be praying for our leaders regularly. Time has come when all should work hard to make Nigeria great again in all ramifications, ” he added.
Ayankeye recently assumed office as President, NBTS, Ogbomoso, following the expiration of the 10-year tenure of the immediate past president, Professor Emiola Nihinlola.
