Bandits kill Zamfara lawmaker, abduct son, driver

A member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly representing Shinkafi Local Government Area, Honourable Muhammad G. Ahmed, was on Wednesday killed by bandits. 

The lawmaker was ambushed and shot dead on the Sheme-Funtua road in Katsina State. 

Honourable Ahmed was said to be travelling to Kano for the registration of his son who had just gained admission into one of the institutions in Kano. 

The Director-General, Press and Public Affairs of the assembly, Malam Mustafa Jafaru-Kawa, while confirming the incident, said the gunmen also kidnapped the lawmaker’s son and driver. 

The lawmaker, until his death was the chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriations and was a long-serving lawmaker in the assembly. 

Honourable Ahmed had served as local government secretary and was a lecturer at the College of Education in Sokoto State before he joined politics in 1999. 

Also confirming the killing, clerk of the assembly, Alhaji Shehu Saidu Anka, said the lawmaker was shot by bandits on the Sheme-Funtua road in Katsina State. 

The clerk said funeral prayers for the deceased were held on Wednesday at Sheik Umar Kanoma Jummuat mosque at 12 noon.
