The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 7, Sokoto, Mr Aliyu Aji Janga has said that bandits do not deserve to live.
The AIG also commended the coordinated military operation going on in Zamfara State and called for the tempo to be sustained in order to eliminate banditry once and for all in the North West and North Central.
The AIG who was in Kebbi State Police Command on familiarisation visit spoke his mind on the high rate of banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminality bedevilling Nigeria
He called for an extension of the operations to other states like Kebbi and Sokoto which fall under his command to prevent bandits fleeing from the theatre of operation into the two states.
“Bandits don’t deserve to live since they can kill innocent people who are their brothers and sisters, destroy properties, destroy people means of livelihood. Honestly, they deserve outright annihilation,” he said.
He said that intelligence gathering was failing and urged policemen to sit up and cultivate more efforts in intelligence gathering and synergy among officers.
He also warned that any policeman under his zone who is caught compromising intelligence, aiding criminals, drug peddlers will be summarily prosecuted and dealt with accordingly.
He warned that he has zero tolerance for corruption and any corrupt officer within his zone will not be spared.
Earlier in his welcome address, the State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Musa Baba told the AIG that challenges confronting his men include accommodation, working equipment, as well as office accommodations. He said that despite these challenges, officers and men of his command are doing their best.
Baba noted that crime statistics across the state showed that the crime rate in the state was very low before the advent of banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling which the command in collaboration with other security agencies has been battling to control.
