BANDITS, on Friday, attacked Rini, a town in Bakura Local Government Area of Zamfara State, kidnapping about 100 people.
The bandits, who were armed with deadly weapons, according to sources, invaded the town in the dead of the night, taking their victims unawares.
The bandits, it was learnt, launched an attack on the town around 2.30 a.m, shooting sporadically to scare their victims.
According to a source, “many people refused to come out of their houses when they heard gunshots, but the bandits were still able to abduct about 100 people from the town.”
The source said the bandits came in two Mitsubishi Canter minibuses and a Volkswagen Golf car.
“Immediately they entered the town, they attacked some strategic locations and perpetrated their dastardly act,” the source narrated further, adding that it was these vehicles they used to take away their victims.
Zamfara State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Shehu Muhammad, when contacted, confirmed the incident, but disputed the number of those abducted by the bandits.
According to Muhammad, the number of those abducted based on the record with the police is 66 and not 100 as claimed.
He stressed that the state police command had deployed adequate number of quick response and tactical teams, with a view to rescuing the kidnapped.
