BARELY 24 hours after it received a communication of Commissioner nominees from the State Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, the Bauchi State House of Assembly Tuesday began the screening Of The 19 nominees sent to it.

Majority Leader of the Assembly, Tijani Mohammed Aliyu, representing Azare/Madangala Constituency who read the letter containing the names of the nominees, said that the Governor’s action was in line with section 192 subsection 2 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
The nominees are Rukkaiya Ibrahim Kaiwa, Haruna Sake Mohammed, Magaji Abubakar Danbam, Rifkatu Samson Danna, Umar Ibrahim Sade, Abubakar Gazali, Babangida Nasiru Giade, Umar Ibrahim Mohammed and Mohammed Sani Bashir.
Others are Pharmacist Ibrahim Madaki Sale, Mohammed Mamud Abubakar, Yakubu Kirfi, Garba Mohammed Sarki Akuyum, Danwanka Haruna Abdullahi, Ado Sarki Haskazikau, Dr Zuwaira Hassan Ibrahim, Musa Kaila Baima and Ibrahim Ayuba Suleiman.
The Director of Information of the House, Lamaran Abdu Chinade who spoke to our Correspondent at the Assembly complex explained that the screening of the nominees will be done in two batches.
“10 Commissioner nominees will be screened in the first batch after which the remaining 9 will be screened altogether”, he said.
What however is not clear as at the time of this report is that one nominee from one of the local government area, Jama’are was not included on the list as against the assurance of the government earlier on that all the 20 local government areas in the state will be represented in the new cabinet.
All efforts to get government reaction to on the development proved abortive as no government official was ready to comment on it, however, an unofficial source insinuated that the Deputy Governor who is from Jama’are will be allocated a Commissioner portfolio to make up for the omission.
