Babcock University set for 60th anniversary celebration

Published by

All is set in Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, Ogun State, for the celebration of 60 years of nurturing great minds as a higher institution of learning and 20 years of global recognition of pioneering private university education in Nigeria.

The president and vice chancellor of the institution, Professor Ademola Tayo, gave the hint on Tuesday last week at a press conference, organised by the institution to herald the activities lined up to mark the university’s anniversaries tagged ‘Journey of Grace’.

According to him, activities marking the anniversaries will commence on  Wednesday, 17, September, 2019.

Speaking about the institution, Professor Tayo noted that Babcock University is one of the 115  universities established by the Seventh-Day Adventist Church  world-wide, under the same international regulation bodies, adding that  the institution does not only belong to Nigeria or regulated by the National  Universities Commission (NUC).

He stated that aside the global position of the university, it had signed different Memoranda of Understanding with many standard tertiary institutions of  repute overseas for different academic exchange programmes.

This development, he claimed, had led to many international students from more than 20 countries coming to study in the university, stating, “this year alone, additional 16 international students have registered for one course or the other in the institution.”

He said the institution in recent times had invested so much in total classroom digital revolution, through the provision of  improved internet bandwidth to  ensure more access to Wi-Fi and equipping of its students, as well as  provision learning aids for effective delivery of e-learning  programmes to boost access to formal education, even at the global level.

While speaking on the tuition charged by the university which he said many consider to be on the high side, Professor Tayo explained that “Babcock University is not a profit-making venture as many people thought,” adding “the fees collected are used to promote and enhance teaching and learning, research and  general development of the institution.”

Harping on the academic achievement of the university, he revealed that on a yearly basis, the Law students of the institution had been graduating with First Class and Second Class Upper honour from the Law School, ditto with the Department of Accounting, where not less than 62 students became chartered before they graduated from the university in 2017.

He added that last year, Babcock University students had the overall best results in England and Canada’s  professional Accounting examination as well as Medicine, while other faculties of  the institution are not left out in the exploits.

“So far, we have produced over 12,000 alumni and we have not less than 10, 000 students on campus.  Our continued existence and relevance in the manpower development process through innovative inventions in Science, Medicine and Technology since inception informed our celebration of journey of grace,”  the VC said
