Mahmood Ali-Balogun, AVRS chairman
THE Audio Visual Rights Society of Nigeria (AVRS) has become the newest member of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC).
Nigeria’s sole government-approved collective management organisation for audiovisual works joined the international body at its General Assembly in Seoul, South Korea, last month.
CISAC is a global network dedicated to the protection of intellectual property rights. It comprises over 227 authors’ societies in 116 countries, representing over five million creators from all artistic fields.
AVRS’s joining the global body will strengthen its goal of ensuring fair compensation and robust legal protections for audiovisual creators while promoting greater collaboration and best practices worldwide.
AVRS’s membership in CISAC will bring several other benefits, including access to resources, advanced technological tools, educational programs, and a network of international experts in intellectual property rights.
This will enhance AVRS’s ability to serve its members more effectively and to navigate the complexities of the global intellectual property landscape.
Commenting on the CMO’s latest stride, its Chair, Mahmood Ali-Balogun, said, “Joining CISAC is a landmark achievement for AVRS. It validates our efforts in protecting audiovisual creators’ rights and opens up new avenues for international collaboration. We are excited to work closely with CISAC and its member societies to further our shared goals.”
Apart from AVRS joining CISAC, Ali-Balogun has also been elected Secretary to the Executive Committee of the Global Audio Visual Alliance (GAVA). The Geneva, Switzerland-based GAVA is a coalition of global Collective Management Organizations focused on expanding and improving the rights of audiovisual performers and collective management of audiovisual rights. Nigeria is a founding body member.
