Avoid being used in protests, Reps member begs Zamfara students

A member of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji, representing Kaura Namoda/Birnin Magaji federal constituency, has urged students to be responsible and sound in their reasoning and to be careful in dealing with issues affecting their well-being.

He emphasised, “Please don’t allow anyone to use you in the name of protest.”

Hon. Sani Jaji made this statement on Saturday while speaking as a guest speaker during a public lecture and interactive session organised by the Zamfara State Students Association (ZAMSSA) at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He expressed concerns that the planned nationwide protest is not in the best interest of the region and the nation in general.

“I appreciate this unique and colourful invitation, not just because I am from Zamfara State or passionate about good governance, but because the challenges of today necessitate that every one aligns themselves with the reality of the problems facing our region,” he said.

“The situation is alarming, and our demographic concerns require concerted efforts to address socio-economic development and security in the region and country at large.

“We must therefore avoid having an unproductive population, which would lead to the total destruction of the region. Education is the only way to mitigate these challenges,” he advised.

“Distinguished invited guests, ladies and gentlemen, esteemed members of the university community, and fellow citizens, today we embark on a vital conversation about the backbone of our democracy: local government autonomy.

“As the closest tier of government to the people, local governments hold the key to unlocking grassroots development, economic growth, and improved service delivery,” he continued.

He highlighted that local government autonomy is about empowering local communities to take ownership of their development, harness local resources, and address unique local needs.

“By granting local governments autonomy, communities can enjoy these benefits, leading to improved overall well-being and development,” said Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji.

He emphasised the need for students to be good ambassadors of their families, university communities, society, and the country in general, particularly representing their institution of learning, which is now considered one of the most profound universities in the country.

“Youth participation in governance is a symbol of a brighter future, bringing about mentorship and inclusivity. However, subversive agents seek to destroy your future and ruin our society by recruiting some of you to be irresponsible in your thinking,” he warned.

“I urge you to be responsible, sound in your reasoning, and careful in dealing with issues affecting our well-being. Some individuals use social media to justify their actions, spreading lies to serve their interests,” he added.

Commenting on the planned nationwide protest, Jaji stated, “I want to use this medium to address the planned nationwide protest, which is not in the best interest of our region and the nation in general. Please don’t allow anyone to use you in the name of protest.”

He acknowledged the hardship being experienced in the country but assured the audience that leaders are working around the clock to address it through various interventions.

“I understand the challenges we are facing, but our leaders are committed to finding solutions,” he concluded.
