Autocrash claims five in Ogun

Five persons lost their lives on Friday night in an accident involving two vehicles at Abule -Ika in Odeda area of Ogun State, along Abeokuta-Ibadan road.

The accident, according to the Ogun StateTraffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) happened at about 9.20pm when a truck loaded with granite heading towards Ibadan lost control and rammed into a commercial vehicle traveling from Ibadan to Abeokuta.

The truck driver was said to have lost control due to excessive speeding while trying to avoid a bad spot on the highway and trapped some of the passengers of the commercial vehicle.

TRACE spokesman, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said nineteen passengers were involved in the accident, leaving five dead and 14 others injured.

The remains of the dead ones were said to have been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, while those who sustained injuries were taken to Federal Medical Center for treatment.

The driver of the ill-fated truck and his motor boy fled the scene for fear of being attacked.

The accident vehicles have been moved from to the Traffic Division of Odeda Divisional Police Station.

The Corps while commiserating with the families of those who lost their dear ones advised drivers and owned of articulated vehicles to make safety their watchword
