AU to promote Africa’s new narrative at Dubai Expo 2020

In its determination to position and put Africa in the global scheme of things, the African Union has resolved to participate at the Dubai Expo 2020.

The Head, African Union Strategic Partnerships, Bureau of the Chairperson, Dr Levi Uche Madueke, who disclosed to Travelpulse&MICE at the Ethiopian Skyline Hotel, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Tuesday, said the platform will be used to reposition Africa through right and positive narratives.

According to Madueke, “For the first time, the AU has been invited to participate in a world expo in Dubai and we have been mobilising all African stakeholders to be part of the joint venture slated from October 20, 2020 to April 20, 2021.

“The objective of this venture is an opportunity to tell the African story, showcase who we are and what we can do as well as a unique avenue to attract investment for Africa. So what we are trying to do is to get onboard all the African Union stakeholders; the AU organs, the regional economic community, private sector, academia, African Union specialized agencies and the civil society organisations.

“So we will be going to Dubai for the period of six months, we have been given a pavilion by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and as I speak to you, we are still at the preparatory stage. We had two workshops in preparation for the Dubai Expo. We recently held a workshop on May 16 and 17 this year where we invited the stakeholders to come and actually work out a process that will enable us to participate effectively in this expo and we plan that in the process, we are going to have road shows and workshops in different regions — west, east, central, north and southern Africa — to sensitise the region about what we want to do.”
