Attention, Oyo CJ

I want to use this opportunity to call on the Oyo State Chief Judge, Justice Abimbola Muktar, to constitute a committee that will look into the cases of awaiting trial inmates at Agodi prison in Ibadan.

There are so many awaiting trial inmates in the prison, and this has resulted into congestion.

Therefore, any accused person who has not committed serious crime should not be allowed to rot in prison. Crimes like petty theft and public disturbance can be settled outside the prison wall.

In the same vein, the police must be warned not to charge ‘petty’ cases to court so that the prison will not be further congested.

Justice Muktar should also urge justices and magistrates in the  state to deliver the cases before them on time.
