Atiku’s dispute of elections result expected, says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he expected his main challenger and presidential of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, to challenge the outcome of the February 23 presidential polls.

President Buhari was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with Atiku saying that he was robbed of victory.

The former Vice President has already expressed his desire to seek to upturn the election result at the courts.

Towards this, Atiku has raised a team of lawyers headed by Dr Levy Uzoukwu, SAN, just as the president has also assembled his lawyers to defend his victory.

Asked to respond to Atiku’s move after voting in his home town, Daura Katsina state on Saturday, President Buhari remarked: “ I expect that to happen.”

Buhari cast his vote alongside his wife, Aisha at the Kofar Baru 003 polling unit, Daura, for the governorship and state assembly elections.

The president, who was also asked to comment on the deployment of security forces to suspected flashpoints during the election, said: “I will leave it to the law enforcement agencies especially the police because they have been meeting virtually on a 48-hour basis to make sure that they have identified the flashpoints, as you mentioned, wherever they are and make arrangements to counter it.”
