ASUP set for indefinite industrial action

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) has put its members nationwide on red alert as the 15-day ultimatum issued to the Federal government and its relevant agencies lapsed on Friday.

The Zone C Coordinator of ASUP, Comrade Mosopa Adekunle Nurudeen made this known at a press briefing at Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu-Igbo on Monday.

He said the National Executive Council of ASUP would soon convey meeting in accordance with the relevance portions of the labour law and decide on the next line of action.

Nurudeen who decried the insensitivity of the government to the plights of ASUP members nationwide submitted that the attitude of the government to the Polytechnic education is worrisome

This is as he described the non implementation of the resolution reached at the tripartite meeting conveyed by the Federal Ministry of Education between the National Board of Technical Education and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, (ASUP)

The Body, therefore, submitted that in order to prevent the industrial action from taking place, the NBTE should abide with the resolution of the tripartite meeting held in July 2024 on 2023 reviewed Scheme of Service.

It, also called for the immediate reversal of the appointment of Principal Officers vis a vis Sector at Federal Polytechnic Nekede and other related matters as reported

The Body stresses the need for the payment tof the arears of 25/30% to its members in Federal institutions without further delay as well the payment of CONTISS 15 migration arrears for lower cadres to beneficiaries without further delay.

The demands also include immediate allocation and disbursement of fund for the 2023 NEEDS ASSESSMENT intervention to cater for infrastructural inadequacies in Nigeria public Polytechnics.

ASUP also requested NBTE to desist from usurping the power of statutory bodies particularly the Academic Board with respect to admission of students at any level.
