Asset recovery tows vehicles allegedly looted by ex-Gov Ortom

The asset recovery committee, constituted by Governor Hyacinth Alia, has towed away several vehicles from the automobile workshop of former Governor Samuel Ortom.

Governor Alia had previously established the asset recovery committee to reclaim alleged looted properties from the former governor. In response, Samuel Ortom and his deputy, Benson Abounu, sought a restraining order from the State High Court.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Kula Tersoo, stated in a recent press release that the former governor had looted 29 vehicles. The statement further highlighted the deplorable state of the government house, with vandalized furniture, window blinds, electronics, and other household appliances. Additionally, all vehicles, including an ambulance and press crew bus, attached to the office of the governor, were reportedly taken away.

During the committee’s attempt to tow some vehicles from the automobile workshop on Tuesday afternoon, workers at the workshop initially resisted. However, they were eventually subdued by the committee members.

Confirming the incident, Bemgba Iortyom, the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, acknowledged Governor Alia’s actions, stating that towing trucks were sent to ex-Governor Ortom’s automobile workshop after previous attempts to drive the vehicles away had failed.
