Assembly polls: Vote APGA candidates on Saturday, Obiano begs Anambra workers

Ahead of March 9th House of Assembly Elections in Anambra state, Governor Willie Obiano has said that he is fully involved in Saturday’s elections contrary to insinuations from some quarters that he is not contesting in any election following his monumental victory in the last gubernatorial polls.

The governor maintained that the State House of Assembly Election was very important to him because the legislature and the executive must work symbiotically to sustain the tempo of development in the state.

Obiano who addressed the entire Anambra workforce at the secretariat complex Awka yesterday took ample time to explain to the civil servants why they should make no mistakes in voting all APGA candidates in their respective communities and constituencies.

He told the workers who listened with avid attentiveness that since the inception of his administration in 2014 workers have not had any reason to gnash their teeth on account of non-payment of salaries and incentives stressing that his administration accorded priority attention to workers’ welfare and well-being.

Apart from paying salaries and other fringe benefits to workers, the governor also disclosed that senior citizens were not left out in his welfarist approach, pointing out that pensions and gratuities were also paid promptly to beneficiaries. He said his administration’s transport scheme for Anambra state workers has also helped in no small measure to alleviate the sufferings of the workers especially those who come to work from very distant places.

According to the Governor, workers’ promotions have been regular and that government was equally seeking other veritable means to further improve conditions of service for the state workforce noting that voting APGA candidates into the legislature would be an added impetus to his administration.

The climax of the governor’s parley with workers was when he said that Anambra state would be the first state in the whole federation to implement the new minimum wage for workers as soon as the federal government did the needful assuring workers that his government won’t breach the social contract it established with the state civil service through the Nigeria Labour Congress.

He, therefore, implored workers not to betray his government but join in the match to return all APGA candidates to the State House of Assembly come March 9th.

In their brief remarks, Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Nkem Okeke, the state head of service Barr. Harry Uduh, state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress comrade Jerry Nnubia as well as the Trade Union Congress TUC, state chairman, Comrade Ifeanyi Okechukwu, all stressed the need for workers to reciprocate the governor’s friendly disposition to them by considering his emotion-laden request and vote massively for APGA candidates during Saturday’s elections.
