Assembly passes Statistical Bill to make Ekiti economy data-based

The Ekiti State House of Assembly has passed the State statistical bill into law as part of the concerted efforts towards achieving a knowledge-based economy where development will be handled with accurate data.

The House had at its sitting on October 24, committed the bill to the House Committee on Finance and appropriation for proper scrutiny and recommendations.

Part of the committee’s recommendation was the promotion of standard and professional practices of statistical production, management and dissemination.

Presenting the report on Monday on the floor of the House before passage, the Chairman House Committee on Finance and appropriation and the Chief Whip, Hon. Olubunmi Adelugba said that the bill was aimed at making government more pragmatic and visionary in its approaches to development projects.

Adelugba said: “The bill will Fastrack the processes of research; from data collection, data analysis and dissemination of quality and valid data to various organizations and government at all levels so as to ensure programmes that would have direct impacts on the development of the state.

” The bill would encourage investors and organisations willing to sponsor or partner the state in development. It is majorly to make the work of data collection easier so as to know where and where to channel government resources. This Statistical bill will give in-depth knowledge required. Any Good government must put into consideration the needs of its citizens according to their demography.

“We cannot afford to waste funds and as much as this administration continues to run an all-inclusive government. All programmes and activities must be statistically worked out.”

The Speaker, Hon. Funminiyi Afuye commended the committee for giving the bill the needed professional touches, promising that the House would always support the executive arm in achieving its mission of values restoration in the state.
