Assault on journalists: NUJ stages protest

NASARAWA state chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) has on Monday staged a mass protest in Lafia, demanding the immediate sack of Director general, Pension Burea Board, Alhaji Abdulahi Sani Oseze,  and redployment of Nasarawa State commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Muhammed  Mahmud Fari.

The association protested to the gates of pension bureau board and the NSCDC, to express their grievances with the manner at which journalists were being manhandled in the nation and the state in particular.

Presenting  letter to the two principals concern, Comrade Dogo Shammah, the state chairman NUJ, called on the state government to within 24 hours to remove the principal officer of the Pension Board, and the redeployment of commandant NSCDC or the Union would stop covering all government functions in the state.

“The leadership of the NUJ in Nasarawa state demands for the immediate sack of the Director General of the state Pension Bureau Ahl. Abdulahi Sani Oseze, Director of Finance and Account, Sabo Mohammed Alaska and the Public Relations officer of the Bureau, Ibrahim Dawaya within 24 hours.

“Failure to do this will compel the NUJ to boycott all government activities. We will also seek legal redress to address the unfortunate development”, he reiterated.

Shammah, however, condemned the ugly situation considering the roles which journalists contributed in this democratic dispensation.

He then demand full compensation to the victims of the barbaric acts with immediate effects.

The national vice president North,  Central Wilson Bako, while condemning the attacks on the two Journalists, said the nation body is also grieved with the happening and collectively would pursue the case until justice prevails.
