Some are angry because they have been dealt with by the wrong side of life in the course of the year. Some are disappointed that their dreams and goals were not realized. Others have mixed feelings. It’s different strokes for different folks.
This time of the year is very strategic. If we mishandle it, it might cause more harm than we can think of and if we handle it right it can propel us onto greater heights. Our perspective must be right.
“In a rapidly ascending balloon were two men. One watched the earth getting farther and farther away. One watched the stars getting nearer and nearer.” George Jean Nathan
We need to critically look into the year that is about to end. We must do a thorough self-analysis. We need to see where we succeeded and where we failed. We must be able to itemize our strengths and weaknesses.
We should not end the year without having an accurate knowledge of how we fared in the year. We must look back to be able to move forward. However, our focus is not in looking back but in looking back so we know how to avoid repeating the errors of the past in the new year. Also looking back will help us know where we have succeeded so we can build on our successes and strengths.
At this time of the year we need to be careful that we do not develop a wrong perception.
“Concentrating on negatives, regrets or second thoughts won’t change what has happened.” A C Aseh
Our perception will determine how our future will turn out. If we see failure, failure is inevitable. If we see success, success becomes a higher possibility for us.
If we are to live our dreams and a glorious future we must learn to see right. We cannot see wrongly and expect our lives to go right. We must not allow the difficulties and disappointments of the outgoing year to shape our thinking of ourselves and of our abilities. We must not be drawn into pessimism, frustration and regret.
“Regrets are not inherited. Regrets are those elements of life that seek to undermine our enthusiasm and our willingness to assume a life filled with new discoveries and the attainment of goals. Let not your regrets be your undoing but instead your vehicle to learn from what did not work. With every miss step or mistake comes the opportunity to rise above; to learn; and to achieve”. Byron Pulsifer
Once this year ends we must forget the year with all its trials, tribulation and even its successes and face the new year squarely.
“Drop the last year into the silent limbo of the past. Let it go, for it was imperfect, and thank God that it can go.” Brooks Atkinson
There is no point crying over spilt milk. Once the year ends it has come to an end.
“The Old Year has gone. Let the dead past bury its own dead. The New Year has taken possession of the clock of time. All hail the duties and possibilities of the coming twelve months!” Edward Payson Powell
