Alhaji Taiwo Akande Abdulrasheed Adebisi was born on the 17th of December 1974, into the family of Mr. Ganiu Amaoo Adebisi (Late) and Alhaja Mojisola Aduke Adebisi.
He attended Abiola Jacobs primary school and secondary education at IMG, all in Oke–Ado, Ibadan, Oyo State. During his secondary school days, he realized that he could sing and so, Taye Currency started his music career at age 11, as backup artiste of his elder brother, Mr. Sulaiman Akanmu Ademola, a.k.a Commy Jackson. It was during this time that he discovered his talent as a musician. Over the years, he experienced rejection as a musician who was told he did not have a future in the entertainment industry. In the process of learning, he travelled to Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State at 14 where he became a backup artiste for two years for four different bands. He furthered his learning process to Ilu-Pesi at Isale Eko in Lagos State where he arranged music instruments and also worked as a backup artiste at the same time (apprenticeship). After learning for a year, he returned to Ibadan to form his own band.
He started his band with the support of his mother at age 17, named ‘Currency Band’ with his twin brother, (Late) Mr. Kehinde Alayoke Adebisi, his Idowu, Mr. Musbau Adebisi and his late manager, Rahmon Akilapa. At age 19, he met Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, who helped him gain his ground in the entertainment industry.
His first album was titled ‘Millennium’ in 1999, then ‘Carnival’, ‘Combination’, ‘Golden Mother’, ‘Agbalagbi’, ‘No Story’, ‘Hauwa’, ‘Ivory Coast’, ‘Solution’, ‘Injection’, ‘Dublin Flavour’, ‘Breakthrough’, ‘Way Forward’, ‘Watch and Shadow’, ‘London Effisy’, ‘Millennium Dance’, ‘London Eclipse’, ‘Turning Point’, ‘What Next’, ‘Pass Mark’, among others.
With several collaborations with his fellow Fuji artistes and later with Hip-hop, Juju, Gospel, Islamic artistes, he has received several merit awards, among them are the most consistent Fuji artiste (City People Magazine), Jagunmolu of Fuji Worldwide, Great ambassador of Fuji, Mayegun of Oluyole Ibadan land, Amuludun of Ikorodu, Okonlomo ni ibadan 1, among other titles.
